At the town-wide yard sales last weekend, I bought a new basket for my bike!
It's the perfect basket, just what I was looking for ... until I put a few items in it, like my phone, keys, or camera. Then, they all proceeded to fall out through the large holes in the basket. So, you know me, I decided to crochet a basket liner. I made a good start with some dark pink yarn. Then I discovered I didn't have as much as I thought of that color, and I switched to a pale green, to match the bike. And I crocheted. And crocheted. And I discovered that the basket had very high sides. I decided to make a liner for most of the basket :)
I joke that the liner looks like a piece of watermelon! Actually, it came out the perfect height to tie onto the middle rung of the basket. I need to trim the ties a little. But it turned out great, I think!
And look what Philip bought me for Mother's Day!! It's a speedometer -- I love it! It's nifty, fun, cool-looking. He and Julia picked it out together in town. Philip and I went for a bike ride and I clocked us all the way along. I'm not exactly sure what the other numbers mean.
On the way home, we saw this lovely sky ~

Way to go, MK! I love your bicycle basket and the fancy liner!
When you get too warm, you can breeze by the river, right? I want a bike!
Love the basket and love the liner. I do not think I would have thought of that! I probably would have lined it with a piece of cardboard or something :)
I see another Saturday sale item!!! GREAT idea!!! Trudi
Love the basket.. and the liner! Last year I didn't ride once all summer. That will not happen again this year, it's the perfect thing on a cool afternoon.
Blessings, Debbie
Super cute! I have a bike but it is all gray and not cute at all. Now you need a horn! haha
This is so cute -- and practical! I want an adorable cute to ride through my neighborhood too.
I meant, adorable "bike"!
Oh this is fantastic- you can see how dry it must mostly be chez vous- I have thought about making a liner for my bike basket but faded at the thought of working with water resistant oil cloth and working out a lid!
You know, it does look cute. But it was the cheapest "cruiser" type bike at WalMart last May -- that's why I bought it. I wasn't sure I'd use it a lot, so I didn't want to spend any more $ than I had to. The squeaks CONSTANTLY :) But the color is nice, and during the yard sale, people were asking to buy it from me!! "No Way!" I said.
Mags, you crack me up :) I do feel sorry for you gals over in all that British/Irish/Scottish rain.
