It's Nice to be Home :)

Let's begin with somethin' pretty, ok?
Yes, that looks suspiciously like a rose -- perhaps some improved type of camellia -- not sure, but it's blooming right here in Oriental!
Just down the road is a tree bursting with life and loveliness ~
Is this a fruit tree? Apple perhaps? I'm so lame when it comes to plant life!
Right next to that rose bush/tree was another magnolia. This one has much darker blooms, so perhaps it's a Port Wine Magnolia, as one of my readers noted.
On the flip side of the weather world ... when Julia and I drove home Tuesday, we found fog, frost, and ice as we approached the high pass at Old Fort.

Every tree, every branch encased in frost and ice ~

And way over in Greensboro we found heavy ice and snow on the ground and roofs. They'd had quite a storm!
This morning Adam made a pan of quick biscuit-type cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Yummm. He baked them in a spring form pan, which gives nice high sides and is easy to remove for plating and serving.
I had a reasonable (small) serving and loved every bit.
You don't have to give up yummy foods when you lose weight. You just need to have them less often, and have smaller portions.
By the way, I've reached my first major goal in weight loss. I'm under 200 lbs. for the first time in well over 10 years. I weighted in at 197.2 this morning. That's exciting! Adam's been riding his bike like a crazy man and enjoying that too.

Yum! Glad to see you're not giving up ALL the goodies. I've made many changes in my eating habits as well and was glad to see that I've lost 10 pounds over the last couple of months. Not "dieting", just eating more healthy stuff. Keep it up, kids!

Hello M.K. The first photo is of a Camellia Sasanqua I think. They are the first of the camellias to flower in spring, and have fewer petals than the Camellia Japonica. The second shrub I think from here might be an ornamental plum. You will have to watch it to see if it develops fruit that set. Well done on losing that weight!

Yay for being home! Yay for the great weight loss news! Yay for pretty flowers....could the pink one be an old fashioned rose of some sort?

Yes, it's wonderful to be home. Those rolls look wonderful. We've never driven to the mountains in the winter, so I enjoyed your photos. Enjoy this most blessed evening!

What beautiful spring blooms. Here we call the Magnolia tree a (Tulip Tree) they may be similar maybe because I'm thinking they are not the same tree.
Love those first blooms you shared, what a gorgeous color.
The wintery weather, not so much fun and thankfully you made it home.
Yum on the Cinnamon Rolls & way to go on the weight loss. I'm starting this week to try and drop at least 20 lbs. Wish me luck.
