You may recall that Adam has been making me a warm evening beverage - honey, lemon, and hot water, sometimes with a clove, and sometimes with a bit of fresh ginger. I've been drinking that a lot, and I confess it is better when Adam makes it. He's a darling.
Anyway, this afternoon I began to feel unwell. My tummy was Up Set! My first thought was, "Oh no! Stomach flu!" Yuck Yuck and Double Yuck. I truly did feel like I would be in need of The Bowl that every family has. It was bad.
I also felt chilled, and when napping and moaning didn't help, I decided to soak in a hot bath. After that I simply lay on the bed commiserating with my tummy. Adam asked for the fourth time, "Can I do anything for you?" And I replied, "You know the honey/lemon drink? Can you make me one with lots of ginger, and just a little honey and lemon? Ginger is supposed to be good for an upset tummy. Maybe it will help." I held little hope, but it was worth a try!
Soon Adam returned with a steaming cup.
We've been keeping a hunk of fresh ginger in the house.
Adam hacks off a chunk of it, peels off the "bark," and shaves the ginger root flesh.
This time he also crushed it in this lemon juicer to get the most out of it.
It was wonderful.
I sipped away, and about a half hour later, my tummy ache was G-O-N-E. I mean that truly; I felt normal again. No bowl. No chills. No having to lie down. I was amazed!
Of course, it didn't cure a stomach flu because that's not what I had. I just had an upset stomach from something I ate today, or for some other reason my innards were UNhappy. And the ginger was such a tonic -- I use that in the old-fashioned sense of the word. I'm so happy we had some ginger root in the house. Try it next time you think your lunch is not sitting well with you :)

The Bowl! Hahaha! Glad it worked! :)
I keep forgetting to put fresh ginger on my shopping list, but I also love to make that drink. So glad you are better, Mary Kathryn.
