A friend gave me this bulb for Christmas. All it needs is contained in that stiff rubber shell - no additional water is needed.
I'm amazed at how the flower heads have sprung out of the bulb. How can that bulb sustain them all?
Above, I held it in a sunny east window. Below, it's catching the last sunset rays.

Your Amaryllis is doing great, with THREE flower stalks! The ones I had 'resting' are not doing well and may not even bloom this year. Maybe I'll just go buy a new one.
My friend told me, when this bulb is done, to put it in the ground, and it will thrive there. Quite a gift!
That is amazing! What kind of bulb is this?
I just got one of these from a friend also with no directions. I was going to cut the wax off. Glad I saw your post. I just googled it and have mine in a south facing window that I have blinds in to keep out direct light when needed. Today it is cloudy. I'll keep you posted. Right now, mine just has short greenness showing.
Kathie, the label says "Giant Amaryllis." It also says to cut off the blooms in order to allow for additional blooms!
I've never seen anything like it, FL! i planted one amaryllis bulb in a bed about 4 years ago, and now it is a big cluster of blooms each year. I plan to do the same with this bulb. So exciting!
I LOVE the second picture. Such a good eye!
Goodness, that is amazing!
I saw those at Trader Joe's this week and they really caught my eye!
