Scarves

I finished the blue infinity scarf. Here it is:

The ribbon yarn is soft with a lovely drape. It's like jewelry. The skein of yarn cost $8. I made one scarf from it, with some yarn left over but not enough to make any single item.
Then I started another scarf with a different ribbon yarn. It has lovely autumn colors.

This one will be a regular long scarf, not an infinity scarf in a loop.

And here's the interesting info. 125 yards of yarn. That will definitely make one scarf. I use large, size 19 needles and I do 20 stitches across. Unfortunately, 125 yards is probably not enough to do a full second scarf. So I'll only be able to sell one scarf from this skein.

I sell a scarf for $15. I can't really sell it for more because people who can go down to WalMart and buy a cheap, somewhat ugly scarf made on a machine in China for $7, won't pay more than $15 for a handmade scarf of very nice fabric. Sigh. So ... I made $5 for my labor, which is ridiculous, but it is what it is. I'll try to squeeze a second scarf out of this, but I don't think I'll be able to. If I did two infinity scarves ... maybe. But not everyone wants that type of scarf.

I'll probably combine all the "unusable" ends of these lovely skeins, and put them together into a scarf, and keep it for myself. I have no idea what it will look like ~ probably ugly :) We'll see. I need to squeeze all the value out of this pricey yarn that I can. I may not be buying it again.
