We use these signs a lot in Oriental.
Last night, our sole anchorage resident (a fellow living in his sailboat in the town anchorage), tied up his dinghy at the dinghy dock ...
When Hurricane Arthur left, he took his water with him!
A friend tidying up her limb-strewn yard this morning noted a lost crab in her grass. Poor little fella! He was about 50 yards from water.
Meanwhile, the Neuse is calm and recovered from her hurricane ordeal overnight. Arthur came and left in a rush.
A few neighbors right on the river took window precautions.
Over at The Monstrosity (as I generously call this house that is overkill in resource use, weeks sitting vacant, and pretension) They have about 30 shutters for this purpose.
A few limbs were down, but not many.
The Methodist church garbage cans took a tumble.
The boat yards were full to capacity. Many boat owners paid good money to have their boats pulled from the water and put on the hard ... just in case.
Church parking lots were uncharacteristically full ... of cars belonging to folks who live in low-lying areas.
But all in all, Oriental has survived Hurricane Arthur well, and we'll turn our attentions immediately to Croakerfest celebrations, hoping our tourists haven't flown away with the winds. Happy July 4th, everyone! I'm not much of a nationalist myself, but I can appreciate a good hot dog and a brilliant fireworks display as well as the next person :) Time to enjoy Oriental's best community weekend!

Yay! Glad all is well in Oriental! :)
Here in rural Granville County all we got was about 1/4 inch of rain- better than having Arthur venturing inland, though
Wow, I had no idea you'd had a hurricane (I don't have a tv, listen to the radio, read the paper, read news on the internet...) hope you are all ok x
glad it was a tempest in a tea cup; better that than the reverse.
I am so glad to read this post and know that you are ok.
Have a great weekend.
