Outdoors!

I was so whiny in my last post, I hope I didn't drive everyone away! No more whining!
a $5 wreath from the hospice thrift store
As Henny Penny noted, the weather is cool, the light is slanted, the outdoors are beckoning us, and we must go out to see what autumn is offering this year. I took along my tea (herbal, from my herb bed, with a neighbor's honey).

My chickens:

Two chicks drinking:

The orchard where they wander and nibble:

The pasture in morning light:

The pasture dog. She loves to run.

The tall pine tree. It figures in a little picture book I still need to paint a cover for:

The garden is long gone to sleep for the end of the year. Its fence was blown over during Dorian and it's thick with weeds.
We'll be rethinking our garden next year. The okra has slowed at last. Sweet potatoes will be dug soon.

Speaking of Dorian, she ripped some roofing off a neighbor's pole barn.
North of us, the big farm. Our terrain is flat as a flitter!

We'll have a burn pile soon. At last we've had rain.

Ned, patrolling his domain.

The fence between the orchard and the pasture is covered each year in grapevine that (sadly) doesn't get enough light (thanks to the pecan trees) to bear any grapes. The fence is sagging with its weight.

Today I get to stay home! I'll paint a little, run errands with the hubby, do a little laundry, practice piano,  and perhaps do a little editing. I'm listening to Christmas music, another old LP.
It's nice to have a slow day without commitments elsewhere, isn't it?

I love slow days! They are the best. You could make Dolmova with the grape vine leaves? Your dogs are cute! It makes me happy to see hens!

I remember your orchard when you first moved in. It's so picturesque now! Is it the shrew story you're talking about? I'd like a copy when it's finished.
Let me know! We're getting snow. Love that tea cup, by the way!

Kezzie, I've never heard of Dolmova. Must go look that up! Yes, those hens make me happy too. Chickens are crazy though!

The chickens do seem to help keep the verge DOWN in the orchard, Lisa. They nibble all day in there.
Yes, it's the little shrew story -- a story of rescue in a storm. I'm just behind. We're developing a new way to copy my little picture books, so until we finalize that, I don't have pressure to make me paint the cover. The book itself is done though.

This is my favorite kind of post...a walk through the yard and gardens with a camera. There is always so much to see. I didn't realize you had such a large fenced-in garden. I appreciate your comment about the Horseradish. I had no idea where to begin. The only thing I know that is made with Horseradish is cocktail sauce. Someone did leave a comment that horseradish canned with beet juice made a great sandwich spread. (I think he said beet juice) :) My one baby chick turned out to be a rooster and looks identical to his dad.

I love 'slow' days also, as I'm truly a homebody, and the past few months have seen me very busy outside of home. Your property looks wonderful and I thank you for taking us on a walk with you.

Happy Autumn to you and Adam ~ FlowerLady

Thank you for sharing your relaxing day with us ♡

I'm having my cup of tea, too, as I stroll around your estate with you. I am glad I could go with you because my day away from home was exhausting and I just want to sit with my tea at this point! If I could stay home and not drive anywhere for a week -- and not because I'm sick! -- I might end up fully rested, body and soul.

Much love,
G

Hi Sweetie Pie! Yes, it IS time for Christmas tunes. Yes, indeed. I am waiting for A Countrywoman's Year to arrive! Yahoo! It is nice to have quiet mornings. I love them. We've been so busy and I can't quite keep up!
Take care, good artist! xo

HP, Adam blends horseradish with mayonnaise and then puts it on roast beef. Too hot for me, but he loves it.

Oh, GJ, I understand. Too much rushing about, and there is no end in sight right now, it seems, until the New Year. Such a busy season of life! I treasure those rare quiet days at home.
