Father's Day

A friend saved my bacon (as they say) when she asked me, "So, what are y'all doing for Father's Day?" instead of "What are you giving Adam for Father's Day?" I'd already told the kids not to buy him a bag full of edible sweets as they used to -- no Twizzlers or Nutter Butters. He's still losing weight.
But I knew immediately what we could DO for the big day! We could go out for dinner! So we did.
We went to Famous Subs in New Bern, where Adam delights in a gyro. He knows exactly how many calories one has, and once we leave the restaurant, the temptation is gone ... unlike a bag of Nutter Butters.
He let me have a little nibble :)
I usually order a gyro too, but this time Peter and I split a pizza with tomatoes, feta, garlic, and onion.
 It was quite good.
I'm not convinced he always appreciates my camera skills ....
Julia got mozzarella sticks with marinara, and some onion rings. Because we're so healthy that way. It was a Happy Father's Day!

Yum! I was intrigued to find out what a gyro was - haven't seen that word on a menu here. Looks yummy, but obviously not gluten free :-(
Our Father's Day is not until September. Funny how the world doesn't celebrate the same thing on the same day. The UK celebrates Mother's Day around March, and doesn't do Father's Day; we have Mother's Day on the same day as the US, but different days for Father's Day.

We had gyros-in-a-box one Sunday lunch. Aldi grocery store sells them.....the pita, meat, and cucumber sauce come in the kit. Pretty good (although not as good as your pictures reveal!).

Yum! That all looks tasty. Really good pitas are some of the best things in the world. We have a place here called Zorba's. Oh. My. Word. So good. And they have a baklava cheese cake. Mmmm. (Glad I just ate or I would be in trouble.)

PS...I was going to reply to your email about mimosas but I lost it. YES, mimosa trees grow here and I see them usually in wild areas but every now and then I see them in someone's yard. I've never seen a yellow one though.

My bacon was unfortunately too late to be saved! It wasn't till the day that a lady in church (and then my husband) informed me it was Father's day and the sermon of course! Grovelling late card made and sent to my Dad!x
