Asking A Favor ~~

We're having a community hymn-sing at our church this Sunday night. I'm choosing hymns for us all to sing -- Baptists, Presbyterians, Methodists, Episcopalians, and perhaps lots of other folks from other churches. I want to choose hymns that people will know, enjoy, and sing robustly.

From the list below, please choose 4 that are your favorites. Or 3, or 5, but just pick a few. And tell me in a comment what they are. That's all I ask!! I need help, and I don't always know which hymns are loved by other people. So here they are:

Brethren, We Have Met to Worship
Blessed Assurance
How Great Thou Art
There Shall Be Showers of Blessing
O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing
Redeemed, How I Love to Proclaim It
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
To God Be the Glory
Holy, Holy, Holy
This Is My Father’s World
Fairest Lord Jesus
Praise Him, Praise Him, Jesus Our Blessed Redeemer
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Crown Him with Many Crowns
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Wonderful Grace of Jesus
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
His Eye Is on the Sparrow
Sweet Hour of Prayer
Trust and Obey
It Is Well with my Soul

Thanks ever so much. I know you all may have other favorites not found here -- sorry. And we're not a "praise song" type of church, although we do some of those also. I just need help sorting out the hymns.

Please, EVERYONE leave a comment, okay? I need your help! Thank you!

Lovely idea. Hope you have a wonderful service. If I were nearer, I'd love to come and support you.

Ooohhh, MK...I love hymns (and hymn-sings!) You have chosen some great ones, and I don't know that I can narrow it down to just 4. But here goes: Blessed Assurance, Great is Thy Faithfulness, Crown Him With Many Crowns, and It is Well With My Soul...but I could choose another half dozen easily.

Surely,
It is Well with My Soul
O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing
Wonderful Grace of Jesus
Blessed Assurance
To God be the Glory
I most love Rock of Ages (the new melody), but it's not listed.
Also, we missed you and Julia at tea Friday. I got to use my new cups and saucers from China (my Chinese granddaughter).
I think we are going to restart our Tuesday afternoon prayer group.

How can I just pick 4? Plus, I think I have been in the same denom as you (at least for 12 years before the past 3) so I am probably not diverse enough. :)

Trust and Obey
This is My Father's World
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

All great songs to remind us of the simple truth that Jesus is the only One we ever need to look to for guidance and assurance (something I think we all need a reminder of some days...)

Hunter -- I'm having a small group from our church sing the James Ward "Rock of Ages" as a special. The other congregations won't know it at all b/c it's a PCA tune, but they will LOVE hearing it!

Oh my goodness, this list sure brings back memories. I pasted the whole list here, then started eliminating, which was very hard to do but to narrow it down here is my list of 6.

How Great Thou Art
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
To God Be the Glory
Wonderful Grace of Jesus
His Eye Is on the Sparrow
It Is Well with my Soul

Have a great time! FlowerLady

I grew up Baptist and I've been Presbyterian for the past 18 years . . . these are the ones that are familiar to me from both traditions:

How Great Thou Art
O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Holy, Holy, Holy
Fairest Lord Jesus
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Crown Him with Many Crowns
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
It Is Well with my Soul

MK, this is a great idea. I know it will go well. Can you record it and put it on Facebook or your blog? There will be lots of requests!

This is My Father's World, The Old Rugged Cross (my mother's favorite!), and Holy, Holy, Holy.

You Tube link to one of my favorite praise songs. I know you didn't ask for these, but I know it will bless you! Have an excellently blessed day!

Very beautiful, Mary Ann. Comforting words! I'd never heard it before.

Of course, they're all wonderful. Hard to choose. One of my favorites, not listed, is Be Thou My Vision.

Have a lovely day M.K.!

Of these -
Fairest Lord Jesus
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Crown Him with Many Crowns

I doubt I'm typical. My favorites didn't make this list.

It is Well With My Soul - One of my very favorite hymns
How Great Though Art - This was my dad's favorite hymn
O For A Thousand Tongues to Sing - This is very upbeat
This one isn't on your list but it's my mom's favorite: What A Friend We Have in Jesus.
