What We're Up To!

We've had a rather productive day, here in Oriental. In addition to doing many errands, I got some crochet done. I sold so many items at Saturday's market that I must spend the week making more! Here's a pair of smittens I made today. I like the fuzzy/sparkly brown yarn on the edges.

Michael's was having a huge yarn sale, and I had a 25% off coupon, so I bought an obscene amount of yarn. It should serve me well for months to come -- although, I do intend to make lots of stuff in these next weeks before Christmas.
Adam and Julia are making huge strides on their boat-building. I went in the garage to find my girl wielding a drill!
Then they started assembling -- or "stitch and glue" construction. You drill holes in the wood, thread zip ties through the holes to hold the boat together, and then use epoxy to bind it all together.
The "stitching" part:
Julia gets a feel for her boat.
I'm worn out from being gone all day, and then going to chorale rehearsal. The big music season is upon us.

That is so cool that they're building a boat! And what memories they're making by doing it together.

Oh, and DELICIOUS looking yarn!

I'm glad to see the tender coming together! What are they using to thicken the epoxy? I've been filling screw holes and sanding off the excess for the last two weeks in our garage, and my epoxy just isn't as smooth as they stuff the guy who started the boat used...

Adam's plan is to use colloidal silica, whatever that means :) We'll let you know how that goes. They're waiting for good outdoor temps, I think.

What a great father/daughter project. Trust me, all that hands on she's doing will serve her well for later in life. Every woman needs a tool kit and a few tools!
