The Garden Spider

This lady lives by the front door. She regularly rids us of yellow jackets and other undesirables.
I love the little "zipper" line of her web. Anybody know what kind she is?

I ran across this today:
“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace, as I have seen in one autumnal face.”
---John Donne
and thought of our love of Autumn!

garden spider

Our farrier once told me the "old folks" called them good news spiders. He couldn't explain why.

That looks like the same type of spider that loves our red raspberry patch. We call them Golden Orbs. That isn't something I looked up and know it is correct, but it is the name I have heard for them....

Julia named her Bella :) We noticed today that she is gone. Perhaps gone to have babies? Shiver!!!
